Guide Right Overview
The Guide Right Program is a youth mentoring and leadership development vehicle that is geared towards young men in grades 6th through 8th. We provide discussions about possible career opportunities, life skills and exposure to other areas outside the city of Chester. The goal of the Chester (PA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc., is to expand the thinking of young minority men about being confident in one’s self, provide meaningful educational, athletic, social activities as well as infuse life-skills necessary to become a well rounded citizen of the City of Chester.

We assist in the overall growth process of our participants, by placing emphasis on improving reading and writing skills, speaking in front of others and learning to coexist with people from various backgrounds.

Our program will be diverse. Consisting of young men from every facet of society; regardless of race, creed or color. We understand that each child requires assistance down the path to maturity in spite of of their upbringing. Believing this, we focus on the overall maturation of each child and give them to tools necessary to be successful in every field of human endeavor.

The Guide Right committee has instituted a retention initiative in addition to the aforementioned program features. We believe that a child can realize their potential if they are in a structured program for more the one year. All participants are automatically enrolled in our program year after year until they complete the 8th grade. After that, they are enrolled in our Kappa League program which runs from 9th through 12th grade.

Guide Right History & Fundamental Purpose

Guide Right is a program for the educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informational in character. Its reach extends to high schools and colleges alike.

Conceived in 1922 by Leon W. Stewart, and suggested at the twelfth Grand Chapter Conclave, Guide Right became the Fraternity’s National Service Program.

The fundamental purpose of the Guide Right Program is guiding young boys and girls of the local community in the right direction by providing scholarships, leadership, and other necessities to students. The Guide Right Program is also to inform young people in the professions and career options. It’s the fraternity’s primary community service duty and every chapter has one.

The in-depth concepts of Guide Right Program are summarized as follows:

  1. To help youth, especially those of high school age, in the selection of courses leading to vocations compatible with their aptitudes, interests, and personalities.
  2. To assist students, while they are in training, to become started in employment, and to progress successfully in their chosen fields.
  3. To assist parents in the handling of their children by giving them opportunities to talk over their problems with those who know and are successful in their chosen vocations.
  4. To afford the less fortunate youths a respite from the drudgery of the streets, through sponsored entertainment and cultural enrichment.
  5. To inform youth of the values of higher education, of assistance available for continued educational pursuits, scholarships, loans, professional counseling, fellowships, etc.; of various occupational and professional opportunities; and of current lab or demands and the trends on the labor market, supply rewards, etc.
